About the Artist

Dixie Turner - Biography

Dixie Turner lives in Kalispell, Montana with her husband Matt.  Dixie’s interest in painting began in 2005 while on vacation with her mom who offered to make paintings together using pastels.  Since then Dixie has been on a journey of learning while working and parenting full time.

Dixie has attended several workshops with notable pastel artists during three different trips to Albuquerque, N.M. at IAPS conventions.  Some of the artists she took workshops from are Richard McKinley, Liz Haywood-Sullivan, the late Maggie Price, and Kim Lordier.  She also attended a plein air workshop in her local area by Richard Carter and Kenneth Yarus.  The year 2020 marks a new adventure for Dixie.  She left her job to pursue her art career and is looking forward to the coming years painting en plein air and in studio.

"I go on a hike and just love everything from the tiny little wild plants to the large dramatic scenes.  I love all the seasons, from the colorful winters here in Montana to the wet spring days that saturate all the color in the landscape.  My hope is that each painting someone takes into their home brings a sense of peace, beauty, light, and even love."
